Who this is for
Estimates suggest that between 5% and 15% of school-aged children have a learning difference that significantly interferes with their ability to do well in school, and approximately 5% may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These and other issues can create considerable frustration, insecurity, and loss of confidence, and may show up as behavioral problems or academic avoidance.
But learning differences and ADHD aren’t the only reasons a capable person might struggle. The only reliable way to understand what’s actually getting in the way is through a thorough, objective assessment — a psychoeducational evaluation.
Once a learning profile is clearly understood, an educational plan that utilizes strengths and addresses areas of difficulty can be put in place, and many students qualify for accommodations and supports.
What the evaluation involves
A psychoeducational evaluation involves a battery of tests and assessment procedures that gather objective information about an individual’s strengths and weaknesses across several domains. Testing areas typically include:
What happens after testing
We do not adopt a one-size-fits-all approach. Every program of tests is developed for the specific individual and the questions they bring. Once testing is complete, we meet with the client or parents to review the results and deliver a comprehensive written report outlining the findings, learning profile, and specific recommendations.
We are also available to consult with schools, counselors, and other professionals as needed to help translate the evaluation into effective support and accommodations.
